The Corn Mother or maiden exists in most if not all the North American Native cultures; she is a woman who's body is made of corn and the originator of the corn plant. In Cherokee we call her Selu, as corn personified she symbolizes the love, care and sacrafice of motherhood. Corn originated in the Americas but it literally feeds the world today. The original Karen Sixkiller sculpture was created in clay.
